    not an affair.  

    I have always just assumed that 90% of the same sex marriage argument is about the legal, tax and financial bene's associated with the institution of marriage, not the ring on the finger.

    As someone who was in a long term relationship with a woman and living together for years without marrying years ago, that was my immediate take on this debate.  I personally don't think married people should be treated any differently than single people when it comes to tax rates, for example.
