  •  Can You Influence Your Children's Musical Taste? (6+ / 0-)

    From the A.V. Club:

I’m 34, and have two children: a son, 3 1/2, and a daughter, 2. I am concerned about the development of my kids’ musical taste. It seems like a good idea to try and influence the kids with my own “good” tastes so I’m not subjected to abject crap when they’re tweens, although I know in my heart it’s inevitable. Still, it seems like it’s a valuable thing for young people to learn for themselves that the New Boss is the same as the Old Boss. But I can plant some seeds and hope, right?

Here’s the question: if you were looking for an artist, or even a specific album, to try and influence a child’s taste in music for the rest of their life, what would it be?

I have no idea how idea how prevalent or true the idea that children rebel against their parent's tastes is, but my mother is from Mississippi and a fan of country music. And I'm not talking about today's pop-country music, but old-school, my wife left me & took the dog country music.

I have an really eclectic taste in music, but as a kid I couldn't stand country music. However, as I've grown older, I've come to really appreciate some of those old country artists and their talent.
