    doing degrading, self-destructive, stupid things.

The most unwatchable show I have seen in TV. Bar none.

That's from watching the first third of episode 1, but I can't imagine anything subsequent that could redeem it.

My wife and I couldn't get through the first 15 minutes of the very first show.  We have a daughter in the same age range who has worked to make it in Chicago and a son in Baltimore.  If I saw them act like that they would be getting a spanking for the very first time in their lives!

I like to maybe thank art is hard. That you could be offended ..... that isn't a bad thing. But my gosh. I keep watching it thinking maybe I "don't get it." It is above my paygrade. I am not so sure anymore.

something interesting, original, and edgy, I recommend Laura Dern's "Enlightened".

Kooky, idealistic hippie chick working for soulless polluting corporation has a meltdown. She can't be fired for legal reasons, so gets stuck in the basement where they keep the weirdos.

I alternate between cheering her on and wanting to slap her.  It's something else.

      •  This show makes me feel sad for the girls (3+ / 0-)

They are so desperately trying to grow up and be "free and independent" that they don't often build into their "freedom" a standard of how they should be treated by men.  They also don't seem to have a very high standard of how they should treat men.

        •  I wonder if this is actually how (0+ / 0-)

young women view themselves today. If so, it's very sad.

My generation didn't win the sexual revolution so women today could go back to going through the motions of sex without enjoying it. The sex in "Girls" seems so joyless.

          •  I agree....it seems heavily influenced (0+ / 0-)

by porn and fantasies (mostly male) with women attempting to live out those fantasies as if they were theirs.....in an attempt to please men who think that porn actresses are demonstrating real, feminine sexuality.  Self-respect, my young sisters, should proceed the exercise of sexual choice and freedom......self-respect!!!!
