I think the polling is right--I believe that Lynch has a better chance of beating Brown than Markey does.  Markey is going to need a top class campaign to beat Brown, and Brown has to really fumble it too.

The problem is that while Markey better represents the Democrats in Massachusetts, Lynch better represents the Massachusetts Democrats who vote.  Lynch is the quintessential old-school Boston machine politician.  He is what Brown aspires to be.  That's why he has a better chance to beat Brown.  There is very little daylight between the two, although at least one would hope that Lynch would generally vote along with the Democratic majority.  But I get the feeling that when push came to shove, on important votes Lynch would turn out to be a Senator along the lines of Joe Lieberman.  Right now he doesn't have much power as a Representative.  He would have a lot more as a Senator.

I'm conflicted.  I think Capuano is the man to beat Brown, but he's not running.  I've faithfully pulled the lever for Lynch the past sixteen years, but I've given Markey $100 to run.

Markey is going to have to emphasis that he's going to bring home the pork, because that's what we like here.
