    From a previous post:

Well, I wrote this whole thing, and then screwed up, and it got wiped before I could send it.  So here is my second attempt.

Many years ago, my mother was diagnosed with lung cancer.  She had been a life-long patron of the tobacco industry.  They gave her a 15% chance of making it to the end of the year.

Another doctor, and a re-examination of the data, led to the removal of the cancerous lung, and another 15 years of life!

While we were watching her treatment, and me being a net=hound, I did a lot of research, and came up with 3 gems for anybody in your situation.

The first is written by Richard Bloch.  I think he is the R from H+R Block, but am not sure.  A letter for all newly diagnosed patients.

Next, this site is extremely useful, with a wealth of information about all kinds of cancer, plus information on tracking down clinical trials you might want to get involved with for any kind of cancer.

And finally (although I am sure there are many more great resources to read out there, is this essay by Stephen Jay Gould.  If you do not recognize his name, he is one of the leading biologists in the field of evolutionary biology in the world.  He has had several brushes with cancer, and he lived much longer than anybody expected.  However, he eventually succumbed to a cancer completely different from any of those he faced earlier.

So get to work.  There will be a test next Wednesday.

And the best of luck to you!

essay. The one you gave leads to a Umass website.
