  •  That and your SS#. (7+ / 0-)

The SS # is requested on passport forms.  It is linked to your birthplace, parents and birthdate.  It just isn't an ID itself.

That's not even "gun control". It's more like "massacre control".

    •  Ss isn't linked to any of those things (4+ / 0-)

Unless your under 20 or so.

You didn't used to have to get one until you went to work. I didn't get mine until I was 15 or so. My kids didn't get theirs until the 80s, and they were born in the 70s. In California. But I got their ssn in Delaware.

There will be tons of people in this country who have ssn with no tie to anything other than where they were living when they got it.

      Including naturalized citizens.

You didn't need an SSN to open a bank account until... hmm... can't find a date. But I know I opened bank accounts without ever giving my SSN, and almost certainly had at least one bank account in my own name before I had an SSN.

banks and not gambling institutions, our neighbor was a banker making a decent, but not excessive salary.  He's the one who set up our savings accounts in the early 60s and said it was required.  My folks filled out the paperwork at home and the cards arrived in the mail.

Not only did they have it, they insisted I prove my identity with it.
