The information I got in the mail suggested I get the real ID with this renewal otherwise I'd have to come back in a couple of years to get it even before my DL expired again.  So I envision you needing to repeat this process in the not too distant future.

Yes, just like polling places where you stand in line for hours in a "democratic area" and waltz in a vote in 5 minutes in suburban paradises, it's interesting to know that the DMVs there are also more efficient.

and others where the traffic is so light that you are in and out in 10 minutes.  Ask a CDL holder for recommendations as they have even more hoops to jump through

they have a scrolling board that tells the waiting time (appointments and non-appointments) for other nearby DMVs (in Concord, they list Vallejo-$4 across the bridge-, Walnut Creek, and Pittsburg).

It used to be 10 years...not sure why it is a shorter period of time than before. Maybe because I'm getting old and they need to check my eyes more often.

Getting my Birth Certificate is doable, but it means a trip to the Waukesha County Courthouse...I would not be lovin' that trip back to Wingnutville.

      •  I don't mind driving around Waukesha (4+ / 0-)

with my Recall Walker window cling on the rear window of my hatchback along with the Wisconsin Blue Fist protest one.  It's like a permanent middle finger to the RWNJs.

I think they explained that it was for everyone and for health reasons (eyesight, infirmity, being white, etc).

      •  In NY, I just got mine renewed. (1+ / 0-)

If I'm good and avoid the cops, I'm set for another 8 years.

Didn't have to go through the garbage that puddytat describes.

Like MA person above, just had to bring old license, get pix taken, pass an eye test (or bring a form from eye dr), write down SS #, and swear I was telling the truth with a signature.

If my address had changed, then they wanted new utility bill, or something with current address, like a bank statement.  Just in case, I had the color copy of my passport page with me.

New license just arrived yesterday.  Pix is much better than the old one, thank goodness!  Which, BTW at the county license bureau, they told me I didn't have to get a new pix taken, which I was surprised about.
