    I just read a number of comments from people who had a hard time coming up with even the 'weak proof' of US citizenship and identity required for the REAL ID.

    Extrapolating, there must be a whole lot of perfectly legal US citizens who, for any number of reasons, can't actually prove it.

    For any type of immigration reform to work, it will be necessary to be able to efficiently weed out the people not here legally, but at present we just can't do that.

    And you certainly can't deal wtih a problem affecting millions of people by looking at individual cases, can you?

    So I suggest that it doesn't really matter what the details of an immigration reform bill are - until we have some form of national identification system, it just won't work.
