  •  Numerous unsettled claims from the Viet Nam era??? (14+ / 0-)

Good lord.  WHAT is the excuse from VBA for this?

I wonder how many vets died within the last 40 years while waiting for the VBA to grant them lifesaving assistance to which they were entitled.

    This is unacceptable.

    •  Two of my great-uncles died before the VA'd admit (10+ / 0-)

their health problems were from chemical exposure in Vietnam.

Their health problems mounted in the same progression and the second fell ill just as his brother was obviously dying - and so he knew exactly what he was facing stage by stage.

I don't know if either was able to access the VA system for healthcare, given that was during the era of complete denial what was happening to them could possibly be service-related.

It took over a decade after they died for the nephews and nieces of my generation to be told what really happened and for my grandmother to start admitting to herself just why she lost her little brothers.

Prayers and best wishes to those in Japan.

    •  That was the VBA plan-hold off until they die off. (0+ / 0-)

Soldiers coming back from Vietnam, etc. have always been treated really badly - people who opposed the war found them easy targets & the news of drug use was used against them in the public eye. WWII & Korean war vets abused alcohol, but that was mainstream & not so criticized.

As a child in a military family, I've always had a problem with how VBA benefits are withheld from soldiers after horrendous active duty situations. The government makes public promises to get people to enlist, then those are proven to be LIES when politicians want to be cheap. It's disgusting !!

Something that doesn't make good sense, makes bad sense. That means someone is being deliberately hurtful & selfish. Look for motives behind actions & words.
