Democrats are poised to bury the GOP for generations.  All Democrats need to do is walk the liberal, pardon me, mainstream line and it's in the bag.  And yes, liberal Democratic policies are mainstream from abortion to taxation to Social Security and so on.

If Democrats try to be GOP lite, they'll blow this opportunity too.

could be their albatross.  Not that they are taking a radical approach, but it will be seen and portrayed that way.  They should not bit off more than they can chew... Maybe they need to go for background checks but not a new assault weapons ban.

What really hurts the Democratic party is in states like Texas; while there are plenty of Democrats here, they are almost all either in predominately Hispanic or urban areas.  Because of this, there is no statewide Democrats to challenge Republicans, but rather more liberal ones that have no chance.

I think Texas is looking good for the future.

How many people would have believed Barack Obama would take Florida twice in 2 elections?  It wasn't too long ago, many Democrats wrote Florida off as hopelessly "red".  No more.

It's just a matter of time before demographics will roll over the Florida GOP.  A little patience.  There's a reason why the Florida GOP is using every gimmick they can come up with to hold power.  Eventually, you run out of gimmicks.

The fact is, no one holds power forever. Political winds change.  The trick to remaining viable is not to completely alienate that change.  The GOP either didn't get that memo or they don't understand it.
