  •  found this this morning about hit Boomers took (9+ / 0-)

since they were too close to retirement to really take advantage of market corrections that time brings and are too old, if they lost their jobs, to find new work (and of course no job meant no healthcare)

Add to this the impact of having to care for aging parents with children returning to the nest after losing their jobs and homes with their children.  (we had 4 generations at one time at one point under one roof.  This meant caring for parents, a disabled partner and grandkids, as their parents had to work up to 3 jobs just to cover basics )

The self-serving self-centered self-satisfied end between born between Hiroshima and Sputnik hoards all the goodies to themselves during the Yuppified icky '80s and nasty '90s while treating us later Boomers born between Sputnik and Dealy Plaza like crap in low-wage un and underemployment. All the while patting themselves on the back for being slopping over with all that peace and love and understanding and that there idealism of the '60s....

If a few less ponytailed proboys hadn't dumped on us Small Pressers for that  they could hoard more Indie Glut four-color goodies to themselves, I'd be more sympathetic.

I thought that we were the generation that saw the advent of civil rights movement and were the ones who got shipped to VN and who were the ones in the streets trying to end the war.  I wasn't aware that any of the folks I associated with during that time ended up on Wall Street or got to cash in.
I always figured that we were the generation that got the short end of the stick during the Greed Generation

About the time we came of age, the companies who once were delighted to have a person's business (phone, bank, utilities) now were charging us a hefty deposit to open an account with them.  Not long after those same companies began to nickle/dime us for every single feature they once offered for free.  Don't get me started ... victims of the Greed Generation indeed!

Of trying to break into comics in the Reagan years when the independent publishers had their little heyday in the wake of the Mutant Turtles hitting big.

Way too many "I voted my credit card for Reagan to keep to spirit of the '60s alive" types running those companies, bragging about how how open to unique new ideas while they are while publishing parodies and knockoffs of the Turtles or last season's hot titles, and running their little companies like little cliques.

They couldn't see any merit in a Johnny Bravo/Futurama/Diesel Punk/Atom  Punk mashup that went on to be an A+ college journalism project done back before there were Johnny Bravo, Futurama, Atom Punk, Diesel Punk, and mashups, because "You suck 'cause you ain't like Marvel, DC, and the Turtles (and sometimes the Aardvark and the Elves)!"

I suppose that I'm lucky that Image didn't exist back then to be compared to.

There was some bigotry involved because I wasn't cosmic and groovy enough to be born between Hiroshima and Sputnik or hip enough to have a white collar suburban parentage.

Let's screw the poach for everyone now that your comics are yellowing, obscure and forgotten in bargain boxes, you're flipping burgers or cubical dwelling, while I aced the unpassable electronics aptitude test and am fixing Delivery BarCode Sorters....
