  •  It's galling, because "the border" isn't the key (0+ / 0-)

to controlling immigration.  In the past, we had "border control", meaning that once someone got five miles past it, he was home free.

Then during Bush, they would appear at one workplace at one shift and arrest a few people.  Every other shift and all the employers in the area would lay low for a few days.  Then it was back to business as usual.

Obama, like it or not, has been the most aggressive enforcer of immigration laws, with the decent exception of the dream stay.   His people check for docs on everyone employed and scare the shit out of all the employers in the area.

That's not even "gun control". It's more like "massacre control".

    •  That is EXACTLY the Problem! (0+ / 0-)

Obama's reverting to form -- endless Jonesing for his idiotic "bi-partisanship" which never accomplishes anything.

ANY Bill that clears the Republican House will be totally worthless. The ONLY way to get meaningful immigration reform is to seize the debate and define the parameters of an acceptable bill.

      1. It must have a clear, simple path to citizenship, not a minefield.

      2. It must avoid hidden traps -- like "the most racist governors in America like Jan Brewer must first declare "the border is secure" before 1 immigrant gets citizenship -- i.e. NEVER!

The GOP is desperately trying to get a bill they can call "immigration reform" while simultaneously appeasing their racist base who are fanatically opposed to "amnesty" -- by ensuring that the "reform" doesn't allow ANY "illegals" to get "amnesty".

Their goal: reform that is not reform, and a bill that sounds good and accomplishes nothing except strengthening "border security" (the part their Tea-Party base approves).

Obama just bought into this total charade by letting the Congress take the lead on this issue!
