There weren't that many out role models. Now there is a whole pantheon of people from all walks of life, including the military, for kids to look up to and respect. If you think things have changed in the past 10 years, it will look like nothing compared to the next 10.

Heck, 10 years ago there wasn't a lot of support for working towards marriage equality in the LGBT community because it looked so far off, and there were so many more pressing issues that looked more easily worked on. Yet here in Washington State, we now have full marriage equality and were one of the first states to approve marriage equality at the ballot box. We've also progress across the board on LGBT issues, and we'd be doing better if we didn't have so many of the American Taliban in the Eastern half of the state.

Workers of the world, unite! You have nothing to lose but your shackles. It is by the picket line and direct action that true freedom will be won, not by electing people who promise to screw us less than the other guy.
