  •  Here's the thing I'm confused about. (0+ / 0-)

I read Avila's TTFN diary/rant as a response to a specific Private Message that she got and published.

Otherwise, no reason to make the big announcement.  So I think the big information bomb that got dropped in that thread wasn't really that Avila was leaving, but that she had been threatened.

So that diary aroused several issues: etiquette of posting a private message, the potential legality of posting a threatening private message (particularly if any legal consequences were to occur,) consequences to a person who makes threatening private messages, proper format for reporting this and communicating that to the community (or not/why not), and the mildly annoying act of titling the diary "TTFN."

Just so you all know, that last part will get you BANNED.

    What am I missing?

That TTFN diaries (and, before them, the GBCW diaries) tend to make the rec list.

As I said above, nobody, from Kos on down, is asking why.

Furthermore, I honestly believe that if TTFN (and GBCW) diaries never made the rec list, Kos wouldn't give a shit. It's one of the ways that this place being All About The Wreck List has come back to bite him on the ass, and he doesn't like it. I mean, think about it--a sure-fire way to get on the rec list is to do a big drama act about how you're leaving? Not the endorsement the site needs, I'm sure.

      •  Well thanks, but (0+ / 0-)

maybe it wasn't being recc'd because of the TTFN part of the drama, but rather because some important issues about safety and threats were brought up.

My point is that the whole essence of the thread was actually an important topic. I mean, what if she hadn't said TTFN?

There wouldn't be diaries about TTFN, parody diaries, offical policy about TTFN diary, defense of TTFN, TTFN and Bullying, etc.

THEN, could the fact that a threatening private message was sent be discussed?

        •  Oh, OK (0+ / 0-)

I see what you meant now.

          And I agree with you.

At least the person who sent the threatening private message was banned, so some appropriate action was taken.
