position as long as the 40 vote filibuster rule is in place. He is serving on the California Supreme Court and will likely be there for a long time.

For some reason, not understood by anyone, Liu felt compelled to testify, as an individual, against Samuel Alito during Alito's confirmation hearings. From the GOPs perspective that was unforgivable and they will never vote to confirm him for any federal court, particularly the SCOTUS.

        •  Liu is a brilliant lawyer and legal scholar (0+ / 0-)

why no Dem Senator, mentor, adviser, or California Democratic Party luminary didn't talk him out of testifying still puzzles me to this day. I recall watching his testimony, which offered nothing new to the hearing, thinking this guy will never be approved by the Senate for a generation or more for any Court or DoJ position. Surely I wasn't the only person who knew that was going to happen. Some senior person needed to whisper in his ear to stay in California and keep his view about Sam Alito to writing an OpEd.

I couldn't remember Liu's name (my aging memory), so thanks for mentioning him. He would be ideal.

California's lucky to have him, but he's prepared for the SC position his whole life, and deserves the position because of his brilliance, his command of the law, and his life history.

Many would be overjoyed! We would all be well served.
