  •  John Kerry confirmed as Secretary of State (3+ / 0-)

Great! A man who supported the invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan is our new Secretary of State. And the beat (of war) goes on...

    •  agree. Our other senator was one of the few, brave (0+ / 0-)

ones who voted against AUMF. Kerry, known for his earlier anti-war actions, not so much.

And his famous line about asking someone to be the last man to die for a mistake never impressed me in particular. Far to the right of most antiwar activists at the time who definitely did not see it as a mistake, but rather as a failed attempt to control that region of the world for economic expansion. Calling it a "tragic mistake" gave cover to aggression as policy.

Hope someone can round up another Elizabeth Warren for me to vote for this summer, but I don't expect to find anyone like her waiting to be called.

    •  It's why Republicans love him at State (0+ / 0-)

All of Kerry's "liberal" positions are domestic -- environment, labor, etc. He's been a warmonger for years, up to and including Afghanistan and Iraq. Republicans know that putting him at State means they basically get McCain's foreign policy, and Kerry becomes irrelevant to domestic issues (with the possible exception of climate change, but we'll see how passionate he really is about that now that he has a whole world to travel around).

No wonder he got near-unanimous Republican support. As long as Kerry is alive, shunting him over to State is perfect for them.
