  •  i dunno (5+ / 0-)

the first section of article 1, section 9 was pretty reprehensible.

    •  I as well don't fear the voters... (0+ / 0-)

only what/who those voters may very well get into office.

So to you, is it really worth pushing an AWB, that at most may affect 2% of gun crime in this country, that will fail to pass (even if it gets to an vote), and will have an adverse affect on our numbers in congress after the '14 election, and most likely more after that? If so, why? Why not push for legislation that would help out way more than the 2% (at best) the AWB would supposedly solve, and that wouldn't hurt us in the next few election cycles?

      •  you see numbers (5+ / 0-)

i see lives. if 30,000 people die from guns each year, and we save 2% of them, yeah- it's worth it.

        •  I see reality. DiFi's AWB bill will not pass, (0+ / 0-)

even if it get's to an vote in this congress. So you're not only not saving that 2%, but putting into jeopardy quite a few seats in congress - which you don't believe, but IMO it does - I just hope we don't get to the point that we have to find out who was right in '14, and beyond.

          •  i don't know what is possible, right now (5+ / 0-)

awb probably not, and even some of obama's proposals maybe not. but i do know that the tide has turned, that demographics are destiny, and that if we don't get measured and effective gun control now, we will have a very intense backlash leading to much more stringent gun control later. things can move very quickly, and demographics already are moving.

            •  OK, you say you want effective gun control now. (0+ / 0-)

How is pushing the AWB "effective" gun control, even if it had a slim chance of passing? In addition to PBO's EO's (which were all good & needed I think), why not strengthen/enforce the NICS system (I support 100%), and come up with a way that all gun sales/transfers must go thru the NICS check (even though I probably wouldn't like that)? That would be much more effective on gun violence than that AWB would ever be
