  •  So marriage should be against the law (1+ / 0-)

for heterosexual couples if the woman is past menopause or if either partner is sterilized or infertile because they cannot then have unintended or unplanned pregnancies? (isn't that redundant, anyway?) What a stupid and irrelevant argument. The point is not to show the societal benefit of letting heterosexual people who can reproduce get married. It is to show why homosexual people should not be allowed to marry. The fact that the lawyer can imagine a benefit to marriage that only applies to select heterosexual couples does nothing to suggest there is any societal detriment to letting people who cannot reproduce get married, as they have indeed been doing for centuries provided they do not have the sane gender.

Clearly, opponents of marriage equality realize there is no evidence of society incurring any harm from same sex marriage and are grasping at rather flimsy straws.
