  •  This isn't limited to Chicago (26+ / 0-)

Houston and Buffalo have higher death by shooting rates per capita than Chicago.

And note that per capita, our cities have higher death by shooting rates than the most dangerous countries in the world.

Gun Violence in US Cities Compared to the Most Dangerous Countries

between gun control laws and murder rates, except when you compare countries like the UK with the US.  Houston has concealed carry but more people get murdered than in Chicago - so all the RKBA types who like to pretend that arming folks prevents murder are wrong.  Chicago has strict gun control laws and still has a higher murder rate than many concealed carry cities.  Aurora IL has the exact same tight gun control laws as Chicago and should have had 40 or 50 dead based on Chicago #s.  It had zero.  There's more noise than signal here.

Effectively stopping gun violence means cutting back on guns in a serious way that the US is probably unwilling to do, but the UK and many European nations do.  Then, you get more signal, less noise.  Will we do that?  Unlikely.  But if getting rid of big magazines and rapid fire assault weapons means that fewer kids will be killed in the next school shooting, I'm all for it.  If waterfowl hunters are restricted to three cartridges when they shoot ducks, surely mass murderers should be prevented from possessing 100 round clips.  Will registration and eliminating assault weapons have a major impact on gun-related homicide on a population level?  Probably not.
