Much lower crime rates than most of the nearby communities and the U.S. averages.

Everyone is still a little on edge, it seems.

    Oregon:'s cold. But it's a damp cold.

from a crime statistics standpoint and we're listed in CNN's Top 100 small towns to live in the USA, but a daughter of fellow school-parents was confronted by a stranger in white van who wanted to pick her up, after apparently waiting for her to walk home after a bus dropoff - things happen in even the better places, unfortunately.

Fortunately, a neighbor saw the odd situation and walked out to their nearby porch, which apparently spooked the driver of the van.

Sure, the odds are lower of bad things happening in various places based on local culture and all, but I guess we all need to try and keep our heads if anything bad might be occurring.

part of what keeps it safe is precautions like this. Especially on a college campus, where it would be easy for a gunman to hide and get lost in a crowd.
