    I don't think hypotheticals help inform the conversation at all. (lawn, shotgun, kids)

      We need better studies, and better numbers. I just felt it necessary to respond to a claim that 100k represents the 'absolute low-end estimate' when we know nothing of the sort.

      Depending on how they scraped those numbers, that might be the mid-range number between 90-110k, 50-150k, or even 10-200k.

      For example, this link:

      reports 65k DGU from a NCVS survey.

      This later study:

      estimates 60-120k from NCVS and includes a couple of more recent surveys indicating that gun victimization is more prevalent than DGU by about a factor of 3, though again the sample size and positive response was relatively small for both.
