They simply don't care; 20 dead children are nothing to them.  Their freedom to own guns is the only thing that matters to them.

Something's wrong when the bad guys are the utopian ones.

Most of it is exogenous paranoia. With NRA selling the lie that Americans use guns 2,500,000 times a year to defend their homes, anybody who believes them is one giant step forward on the way to the booby hatch.

Results: $50-billion wasted buying "home defense" guns over the last 20 years.

Facts: all civilian justifiable homicides totaled 232 deaths in 2010.

All home invasions, including burglars with knives, totaled 8,000. The most of this was burglaries where family was at home, maybe upstairs when the burglars entered.

Not 2,500,000. Not even close. More like 1% of that when you include going after raccoons.

Last years we have full data were 1987-1992: gun "defenses" were 83,000 including police drawing weapons at crime scenes. Police and civilian together get the 83,000 figure. That's FBI/DoJ.

Civilian gun uses were about 25,000 and that included shooting raccoons. Most of civilian uses were (and are today) at small businesses during armed robbery attempts.

Home defenses where guns are fired during crimes might total 80 or 90 deaths, fewer than 400 shootings a year. The total cannot possibly be as many as 1,000 shootings.

It's paranoia. Artificially induced. Based nearly 100% on lies. Real, nonetheless.

A hoard of imaginary barbaric criminals attack American homes 2,500,000 times a year -- driven off by Hero Of The NRA gunslingers.

And Sarah Palin is the new Marilyn Monroe !

("Raccoons" is a key concept, here. Gun owners use their firearms much more to go after nuisance animals than to go after other humans. NRA misstates gun use over and over and over. For $50-billion extra Gun Biz profit, that's understandable. For NRA it's a sales pitch.)

"Have you left no sense of decency, sir, at long last?" Army Attorney to Sen. McCarthy, 1954. "We have done nothing to be ashamed of. We have nothing to apologize for." NRA 12/14/2012.
