He kept using the same, fundamentally flawed argument today. We can't support any proposal because "the current laws can't work" because of X or Y, he kept saying. But of course the NRA opposes doing X or Y. And if anyone said, let's do X or Y, he'd say they can't work without something else.

A complete rhetorical shell-game. But clearly their goal is to get through all of this with only background checks coming out of it, so gun sales don't really fall. And his policy of obstruction seems to have fooled the press into leading with headlines like "two sides still far apart" when many Republicans actually support strengthening some background checks.

"There is no proof that assault weapon legislation will reduce crime. We can only conclude that outlawing assault weapons would be useless."

You don't have absolute proof, therefore you must accept my argument.

And of course the highly paid shill, LaPierre, is not going to give an inch. Even with a .44 bullet in his gut, he'd spew the same crap.

"Have you left no sense of decency, sir, at long last?" Army Attorney to Sen. McCarthy, 1954. "We have done nothing to be ashamed of. We have nothing to apologize for." NRA 12/14/2012.
