    Wonderful rail system they have. Japan, of course, has half again the population of Germany and twice the population of France. But as a metric for rail availability, at least as important are all the tiny little stations in tiny little towns -- that nonetheless get regular use. Japan has those too (so does Europe -- but not us).

      Japan: 126 million people on 145,000 sq miles,
      Germany: 81 million on 137,000 sq miles,
      France: 65 million on 260,000 sq miles.

      Japanese Rail is the greatest, though!
