  •  I hope you're right about the meaning (5+ / 0-)

    of having the kids sing.

I'm much more cynical-- that this is a way to show the country "cares", and then we can all move on with business as usual (meaning, in this case, a shrug about the unfortunate human collateral of gun violence).

And there will be plenty of folks complaining about this-- just as they went after Costas for talking about the KC Chief who murdered his girlfriend (which was the big gun story prior to Newtown, remember?) They won't heckle the kids or their families, but I suspect social media, message boards, etc will be alight with the righteous outrage of the gun absolutists and the football purists for the NFL daring to intrude upon the Super Bowl this way.

But I'd be delighted to be proved wrong!!

I have a hard time thinking the SuperBowl organizers would have included the children if they didn't think it would be to their benefit.  Maybe I am just too cynical from living in NJ too long.
I have mixed feelings about this.  There is that flavor of exploitation to it.  I guess I will have to see how they handle it to make up my mind.

the super bowl organizers wouldn't have included them in the program if they didn't see a benefit to themselves.  That can be true at the same time that it can also be true that there is a benefit to the rest of us, to those children and their families, or also to the families and the community that was harmed on 12/14.

It isn't a zero sum game here.
