    about the reporting to the ASPCA when I was very young.  I still remember it all these years later.

    •  The neighbors knew that little girl's (6+ / 0-)

      life was going to end and tried desperately to get help.  There simply were no agencies to go to.  The ASPCA kindly agreed to help and the child was ultimately saved.  It is a poignant story that really does stay with you.  I learned about it many years ago in college in a child abuse class.  I cannot remember her name after all these years, but I cannot forget her story.
