    his tack has been to tag Markey as the anointed one and try to run as the outsider, a la "people's seat."

    He's appealing to his Southie base and similar people across the state: "they don't want to make room for 'folks like us' but we'll force them to."

      how he can convincingly peg himself as an outsider, considering he's been in the House for about 10 years now.

        Outsider in the Democratic Party is what he means. Kerry, Warren, Vicki Kennedy, etc. have endorsed Markey. So his spiel is "I'm not afraid to vote out of lockstep with the Dems. I am a maverick. So the Democratic establishment is against me, but I'm fighting for your working-class family, not for them."
