    http://usda.mannlib.cornell.edu/...

Number of Cattle and Calf Death Loss by Cause 2010

    Coyotes: 116,700
    Dogs:        21,800
    Wolves:      8,100

    Health issues > 2 million

    Weather ~ 500,000

Wolves comprise ~ 3.7% of predation loss, and 0.2% of total loss, for a total livestock cost of about 4M dollars compared to a total loss cost of ~2.5B dollars.

So, explain to me again what the big deal is with wolves when dogs and coyotes are more than an order of magnitude larger problem?
