  •  The title of the Hagel article seems a bit off... (5+ / 0-)

To say that he "may yet win" the Pentagon post makes it sound like he wasn't expected to be confirmed prior to the hearing, or immediately after it.

From everything I've read, he definitely has 51 votes (and didn't lose any Dem votes as a result of the hearing), and the only issue is whether the GOP tries to filibuster or place a hold on the nomination.

    •  Not that you're responsible for this, JML ;) n/t (5+ / 0-)

thing - but it is truly mind blowing at the R's attacking him the way they have. And I have to wonder - if they try to filibuster him - ol' Cool Hand Luke Obama is just gonna smile and say - see.... I nominate a R and still they block me.

if a habitat is flooded, the improvement for target fishes increases by an infinite percentage...because a habitat suitability index that is even a tiny fraction of 1 is still infinitely higher than zero, which is the suitability of dry land to fishes.

      •  Lindsey Graham... (5+ / 0-)

is threatening to maybe place a hold on Hagel's nomination until he gets more answers about Benghazi... which, to my mind, shows just how politically motivated the whole attack on Hagel is... I mean, why would Graham put a hold on the Sec of Defense rather than the Sec of State over something that was under State's purview.

The hubbie - who pays attention but not obsessively like I do - has been talking about it ever since he watched the hearing. He's pretty amazed at how much Hagel is being attacked, particularly by McCain. His take is jeezus - they are both 'nam veterans.

Hagel refuses to admit that it was the best thing ever.

validation on that. I think history is going to have lots of bad things to say about many of the years we have lived through.
