  •  Back in the 90's the Mormons actually found (7+ / 0-)

    that people supported "Gay Marriage".  It made them think of that nice couple down the street, who they liked and cared about.

    This was during their fight against equality in Hawaii.  They initially tried to run against "Homosexual Marriage", but something interesting happened.

    The dog whistle was too loud.  It made people tune them out as bigots.  30 years of Anita Bryant and Jerry Falwell sneering the word "Homosexual" influenced how people saw the speaker.

    Then their PR firm found the bigot sweet spot.  "Same Sex Marriage".  The dog whistle wasn't too loud, and it got people thinking about sex instead of about relationships and human beings.

    Worked great for them for a decade.
