I love nature, science and my dogs.

    •  Late again. Like Oceandiver, (6+ / 0-)

our last couple of weeks can best be described by Mr. bwren's most recent palindrome: snot?tons.

In looking over this thread, it seems as if there's a consensus building, and it looks good from here.

Jim and Melanie's Thursday postings and Billybush's seasonal weekly butterfly diaries have become a BYS tradition. However, I don't think it's imperative to stand on tradition if we all feel like we want to change.

As many have noted, the original Daily Buckets appeared  daily and were quick, general notes that served to open the day's discussion of recent observations from backyards and wider natural neighborhoods. Sometimes there were questions and replies, but the conversation was pretty much wide open. I'm probably guilty of pushing the buckets into more specific topics over the years, but I really like this model. Personally, it's easier for me to get something up on a regular basis if I'm not trying to research and write detailed essays.

That said, I think there's real value in those detailed essays, especially as members of the group have keen insight into the natural history of their individual neighborhoods, as well as strong narrative skills. This may be where Backyard Science: My Essay serves best, introducing the group and other casual readers to stuff they may never have experienced.

I'm liking the earlier publication times for Buckets. How about we reserve the early morning for Buckets and publish essays in the late morning or early afternoon?

OK, I have to finish the next Yardbird Tally before it gets too late. I won't have a Bucket tomorrow, but can take Tuesday. Anyone want Monday?

      See you tomorrow.

I came for the politics and stayed for the science.

      •  I like the way we have talked this over. (6+ / 0-)

I like the direction things have gone. You folks are good to work with.

Let's see how things go with having Daily Buckets, daily and they can be short and serve as discussion starters.

If we have a longer and more researched diary, let's call it Backyard Science.

Buckets earlier morning. BYS later morning or early PM.

Melanie and I aren't reserving Thursday as 'our day'.

If anyone has something to say as a DB, check the queue and recent diaries. If it looks clear, go ahead on any day.

        Bwren, are you in agreement?
