"Pastor" Bell made it very clear that she intended her message to be seen and that her identity as a "Pastor" be known - apparently not by as many people as ended up seeing it, but that doesn't discount that "Pastor" Bell was the one that relished in "outing" herself in the first place

    •  Be that as it may... (6+ / 0-)

...if I owned a restaurant, I would not want my employees publicizing the identity of my customers.  If Pastor Bell wanted her message to be on the internet, I expect she would have put it there.

Unlike some - I have no problems with the actions of the restaurant - they were well within their rights to fire the employee if they felt the need

However - I have ZERO problem's outing the Pastor either ... clergy are a 'preferred class' of citizens in the US that garner unfair advantages - namely citizen supported tax benefits that SHOULD subject them to public oversight and review

"Pastor" Bell was well outside her moral/legal authority to criticize her outing, but the restaurant maintained its authority to act in a way that best reflects ITS fiduciary duties - whatever that may be ...

    •  I really don't care what the "church" is named (8+ / 0-)

or the "pastor" claimed. This was stiffing a waitperson, plain and simple, out of stupidity, greed, and prejudice.

"Pastor Bell" -- you're a con artist. You should be ashamed. You're running a church, living off others' work and sweat and tears and blood.

I am an atheist and spent 13 years in the service industry, so when I first heard about this, it got my dander up. But

        1. The pastor lady says she and everyone else in the party paid the automatic gratuity, but paid cash. Also she says her credit card was debited anyway.

        2. The server who posted the receipt doesn't deny this. In fact, she says she doesn't know who paid what because she was not the server of this party.

Kinda changed the perspective, for me.

called Appleby's demanding everyone of the wait staff be fired after she was outed.  So, she lost my sympathy right there.
