  •  That sort of euphoria (3+ / 0-)

can be summoned - but as a day-to-day thing it can diminish over time.  I very nearly died of typhoid/hepatitis A and a blood clot in my 20's - long story, picked up lots of diseases in Africa.  Wasn't supposed to make it - organs shutting down, emaciated, bad situation entirely.  Anyway, when I was finally on the mend, the euphoria was wonderful.  It taught me two things - first, it made me very well aware of my mortality and gave me a certain clarity of action knowing time was limited, and second, it gave me a great appreciation for the beauty of pretty much everything and everyone around me.  Although my health never totally recovered, I'm healthy enough 25 years later and in retrospect, it was a positive experience.  But it's hard to keep the edge... it's important to remind one's self and carefully consciously capture exactly what you are feeling now so you can draw on it later.

That said, your diary is a useful piece of writing.  Now in middle age, I weigh more than I should and have (controlled) high blood pressure.  I need to drop the extra pounds and take full advantage of my health insurance - get a complete cardiac workup.  I'm not much of a consumer of health care - tend to not go to the doctor unless something serious is going on, so your diary is a reminder to me to get a good cardiac workup and pay much closer attention to anything that appears minor that might not be.
