  •  As as the gun Cult members that keep spewing (24+ / 0-)

the NRA talking points all the time, but not as ridiculous as having a person shot every 5 minutes and hearing them all insist that there is no gun problem.

Then they came for me - and by that time there was nobody left to speak up.

    •  The whole interview is staggering. (19+ / 0-)

When he said, in response to Chris Wallace's noting that the President's children are in harm's way, to "tell that to the kids at Newtown," I just about threw something at my laptop.

This is a man who has no business taunting any of us about what Newtown's children should and should not be told.

What I love is the non-sequitor that happened when Chris Wallace brought up the shooting of a singularly skilled Navy Seal sniper on a shooting range. Immediately, LaPierre jumps to this unrelated point on why schools need to start arming themselves with security guards and police details. Wallace was surprisingly good throughout the interview, but I don't know why he didn't shout something like this at LaPierre:

All the weapons in the world didn't protect an expert Navy Seal sharpshooter when he was attacked on a shooting range -- a shooting range in which, presumably, he was not the only one armed, nor the only one with weapons training. If any situation could better adhere to LaPierre's fantasy of a gun-toting safe space, I'd like to know about it. And yet the Seal was shot and killed, in full view of all that firepower.
Finally, note that he wants to regulate everything under the sun except guns. Chicago gang members? Fuck their due process, lock them away and throw away the key. People with mental health issues? Put them down in a comprehensive federal mental health database -- one that would give nightmares to even the most tepidly libertarian of Tea Baggers, for its infringement upon precisely the same Frrrreedum that 2nd amendment enthusiasts get all all up in arms about.

Nothing requires a greater effort of thought than arguments to justify the rule of non-thought. -- Milan Kundera
