    As I recall, the State Department estimates that there will be only twenty permanent jobs.

    People in South Dakota (or was it North Dakota?) complained that TransCanada had few jobs for local people when it built a pipeline. TransCanada brought in its own people. Not all, but the state didn't see anywhere near as many jobs for their own people as TransCanada predicted.

      from a Nationalism/Jingoism angle- why are we going out of our way to trash the environment for a Canadian/Chinese welfare program?

        Why endanger the American midwest--and its aquifer--to facilitate the transport of that nasty bitumen from Canada to Texas to China?

        There is plenty of American money involved in TransCanada, of course.

        Some reports say that the Koch brothers will benefit enormously from Keystone XL.
