there was an article about the 2.7 million tons of highly toxic coal ash stored in leaky ponds at a power plant Duke Energy will be shutting down this year.

A post on the article from a "conservative" commenter said this:

You wouldn't be alive to worry about ash if your homes had not been heated.
That is the attitude of the right: no matter how toxic this coal-burning process has been, from the environmental disaster known as "mountaintop removal", to the billions of tons of toxic combustion products we've been forced to breathe for decades, to the billions of tons of carbon dioxide that is suffocating the entire planet and has led to the hottest year on record, to the heavy metals and othjer assorted toxins in the coal ash that have been allowed to seep - and sometimes out-and-out flood - into our water supplies and our communities, that's all A-OK with the right wing because "we're not dead yet" and our homes have been heated.

That is the level of idiocy we're being subjected to. It's as if a psychopath encountered a hiker dying of thirst in the desert and handed him a bottle of strychnine-laced water. As the hiker dies a horrible death from strychnine poisoning, the psychopath tells him: "you wouldn't be alive to worry about the strychnine if I hadn't given you the water".

So, your "too dead to enjoy the rancor" comment really resonates with me. How do we remove these sociopathic idiots from any positions of responsibility where they can continue to destroy our home planet?
