    Gov candidates need 2000, but at least 100 from each of ten different counties. Subject to external challenge on all sorts of grounds.

    (It's much harder for third parties, however.)

      10,000 for statewide. 2,000 for congress 1,00 for Governor's Council, sheriff, DA, other similar offices. 300 for State Senate. 150 for State Rep.  Alternatively you can get the same number of write-in votes in a primary.  People often run "sticker campaigns" where they give their supporters a sticker with their name and address that they are allowed to affix to their ballot.  Sometimes an incumbent fails to file leading to mad scrambles where multiple candidates are all running sticker campaigns.  My own rep, Carl Sciortino, once failed to file and still won the primary, even though his opponent was on the ballot and he wasn't.
