    just went from university professor to Supreme Court justice in Michigan.

    Being a teacher isn't necessarily "detached." It all depends on what kind of teacher, and person, he or she is.

      all over the states' supreme courts.  I am so tired of judges and appellate judges being the "only ones qualified" for a supreme court position (whether federal or state level).

      McCormack was a big big big exceptional case, because of her famous ties and use of those ties in the campaign.

        is what exactly?

        I didn't say in my comment that it would be easy. Or that McCormack's is an ordinary case. Because it won't, and it wasn't.

        I don't know much about the WI choices in particular. But my sense is that if we're choosing between two candidates, neither of whom has huge name recognition or establishment cred, we shouldn't simply write off the one who's a teacher. That's not a very well-considered approach.
