    He was writing to flatter Elizabeth I -- which was good enough reason for him to portray Richard III as evil.

    When Richard was alive, there were seven potential claimant's to England's throne, and all of them had or could obtain access to the bastard Princes.

    Remember their father, Edward IV, was married to two women at the same time, Eleanor Talbot and Elizabeth Woodville. That's why his children with Woodville were considered bastards.

      was a betrothal, I believe.  Still a binding contract but not a consecrated marriage.

      . . . Edward IV was bethrothed to Eleanor Talbot other than Richard's propaganda vis-a-vis Bishop Stillington.  Also, Eleanor was dead before they were born, thereby negating the bethrothal.
