I have been predicting the breakup of the GOP's big tent for a decade now (my timing has been wrong, but hey) now here it is.
Reagan and Atwater expanded the GOP's "Big Tent" by including the Southern Bigots, the Jeebus freaks and every other angry white man they could, attached to the Wall Street and Big Money types, the Greeeds.
It was an unstable coalition based on lies. The GOP leadership had no intention of turning us into a theocracy but that's not what they told the Jeebus crowd. They had no power to overturn Brown Vs Board of Ed but they used dogwhistles to CONvince the Bigots that they would undo the Emancipation Proclamation.
Eventually, these internal factions had to figure out that they were being played and the result had to be a grenade.
Rove and Armey used cultural jujitsu (the TeaBaggers) to rejuvenate their fanatic base but the monster got away from them, now they have to kill it or be killed by it.
I don't see how they get out alive.
This is a classic Rats Vs Roaches. You don't care who wins as long as they damage each other mortally.
With any luck at all, the GOP will become three large third parties and a dozen fringe groups, none of whom can field a credible national candidate (and I will abstain from predicting which election it will happen by and just say) eventually.

If I ran this circus, things would be DIFFERENT!

been wondering for over a decade why we couldn't easily break up the coalition of the damned forged in hell and held together by what? propaganda? Rush? Fox?

All we had to do was just show them that the richies were using the redneck racists and religion goobers.

there was even a video of Tucker Bowtie giving the game away where he spilled about the contempt his buddies inside the beltway had for the base. just couldn't get traction...

now they're doing it for us.

I see a win. win. win.

if the Corporate Cons succeed in this (very unlikely) they lose their active voting bloc.
      we win. big.

if the party splits into 2 parties (I hope, I hope...)
      we win. Big.

if the Corporate cons fail to rein them in (very likely) the teabag base keeps putting up people like Bachmann, West, O'Donnell...
we win. but it will be ugly out there. but we win.

but we have to keep finding and putting up really good folks on the Dem side! don't let down our guard!

no man is completely worthless, he can always be used as a bad example.
