  •  The problem is only nutters come out for primaries (16+ / 0-)

I have been a registered Republican my whole voting life and I have never voted in a primary.  Didn't do it before the Teabaggers and won't do it now.

The so-called establishment Republicans need to understand that it isn't a question of money or candidates but getting their candidates out of the primaries.  You can't throw money at it.  It requires hard work that can't be astroturfed.  And since Republicans like me have been run out of the party (remember RINOs) good luck with that.  In the foreseeable future I'm taking my red rolodex and voting blue across the board.

    •  I think you've expressed their core problem (10+ / 0-)

The oligarch part of the party doesn't have the numbers to control the outcome of primaries. That's become the domain of the activists/fanatics in their party. And Karl is going to be battling the piles of money Citizens unleashed on the process. Do he really think nutjobs like the Koch and Addleson (??) will hold back their money in primaries? In short the TeaParty (of whatever it's called in future cycles) is here to stay.

What's wrong with America? I'll tell you. Everything Romney said was pre-chewed wads of cud from Republicans from the last 30 years and yet he managed thru a combination of racism and selling the (false) hope of riches to get 47% of the national vote.

All those refugee Goppers only help turn the Dems from a progressive party into a fascimile of the Eisenhower Republicans.

The sane Goppers can do a lot more good, for EVERYONE, if they stay out of our party, stay in their OWN party, and do whatever they need to do in order to take their party back from the nutters.

In order for democracy itself to function, we MUST have two sane political parties again.  I am vehemently against a single-party state even if it's my own party.

        So go fix the GOP.

        •  Well, why don't we have the same enthusiam (0+ / 0-)

from our "radicals"? If what you say is true it should only have an impact if our activists stay home and the RINO somehow show up in sufficient numbers to sway our primaries. If that's what happening I maintain that the problem is with our side not theirs.

          split.

My mother-in-law was a county chair of the Republicans for 20 years. She is a great democrat now. She is more economically conservative than me, but on all the social and education issues we agree exactly.

We have a lot to learn in growing out party from Republicans who have joined it.
