  •  Once again the phone companies didn't adapt. (10+ / 0-)

Before it was the old fashioned black telephone.  They would NOT hear of any thing else.  MA Bell met her end.  But she came back and started making her rules for the internet.

I am gleeful this is going the same way.  MA Bell can't stop progress no matter what the disguise.

PS.  I liked MA Bell better than this iteration.  At least she didn't lie like crazy.

guns are fun v. hey buddy, watch what you are doing -- which side are you on?

      "The President's Analyst."

I am not religious, and did NOT say I enjoyed sects.

And Unix is, for quite a long time, what the internet ran on.  It wasn't where the internet was created but it's where it really took off in a big way.

(Although to be fair, to a large extent this was because Bell Labs wasn't actually allowed to get into the computer business because of federal monopoly rulings they had to live under, not because they were trying to be egalitarian on purpose.   Licensing out the source code of Unix to lots of different mainframe and server manufacturers and universities was one of the only ways they could legally make money off of it, and this licensing out was the reason it became so ubiquitous as to be found on utterly dissimilar computers.)
