Upper management kept focused on schedule for as long as they could, then suddenly decided to focus on cost. That grinding noise you hear is the gearbox complaining about the sudden shift of gears, and I'm one of the cogs dropping to the bottom of the box.

The funny thing is that come October we'll have normal budget again. But by July they'll have 6 heads budget to support what is now 19 heads worth of work. Good luck with that. Funding profile looks like a bathtub, and my job is going down the drain.

My manager tells me that if I want my job back in October he'll be happy to hire me. I'd rather find a permanent position.

Before people queue up their job search engines, I have 31+ years paid into the defined benefit pension plan, and I'm very focused on not changing companies if it is at all avoidable.

Economics is a social *science*. Can we base future economic decisions on math?
