Jesus. What the fuck were you when you were a kid? Fucking perfect? No fucking focus should be on this kid at all. This was fucking horrible.

    •  8 year olds are called "kids" (0+ / 0-)

Humans and goats too if you want to get down to it.  And nobody is disputing the kid was misbehaving.

      •  wtf? (0+ / 0-)

Yeah, I know. I called him a kid too.

        wtf is that about?

I dont care if that kid shit in his hand and threw it at her - you don't fucking beat a kid with a belt. Ever.

This fuckery sounds an awful lot like, "Yeah, well she was wearing a really short skirt..."

Fuck me. This is NOT ABOUT anything the kid did.

But point in fact, the kid was misbehaving.  Why that simple statement gets you outraged I have no idea.

Who the hell in this diary said the beating was ok?

The post I responded to said this:

Sounds like the kid was a little jerk (15+ / 0-)

but the proper response would be to eject him and Mom from the store and ban her from bringing him in for a few years, until he learned to behave.

Not a word about the beating. Just about the "jerk" kid.

P.S. Go away. I do not want what your'e selling.

And in your initial response you even said (logically) that all 8 year olds misbehave.  But obviously you're too angry to think.

on the beating when so many other commenters are and were?

While my title 'focused' on 'the kid', the comment, which you helpfully boxquoted, focused on a better response to his behaviour by the clerk than a beating.

Without 'the kid's' misbehaviour, there would have been no beating.  Events do not occur in vacuums.  Was the clerk seriously over the line?  Most certainly.  Which is why I suggested a far better course of action in my comment.  Did I run around in stores and throw things at adults?  Hell no, even if I was not 'perfect'.  The mother should either have done a better job of parenting, or simply not brought him in with her, if he's uncontrollable.

Your choice to focus only on a single actor reminds me of the I/P diaries, where everyone insists the other side bears all responsibility for any given tragic event.  In this instance, the clerk would be Israel, rolling in tanks after Palestinians threw rocks.  Deplorable, out of proportion, and yet without instigation, no tanks would have rolled.

Life is about systems that interact with one another, and to end deplorable actions, we have to address more than just one part of the issue.

              •  I think focussing in any way on the kid (0+ / 0-)

and his alleged behovior is akin to focussing on a rape victim's dress, as I've already said. I find it utterly deplorable to even go there. I feel the same way about any focus on the parent.

When talking about a prolonged beating of a child - yes, it can be enfuckingtirely in a vacuum. Thankfully the cops there and the law are with me on this.

              •  And I honestly cannot believe that you just (0+ / 0-)

equated an 8-year-old child beaten by a 39-year-old with the two sides in the Israel/Palestine debate. That is so deeply fucked up I dont' even know where to - or really want to - begin.

                •  Why not? A lot of the time that's about what it (0+ / 0-)

is.  Some Palestine kid throws a rock, and next thing you know, they've been shot in response.  It's called 'disproportionate response', and it happens all the time in situations in which power imbalances exist.

                  •  Y'know, I was about to back off, but this (0+ / 0-)

                    is really awful.

You did not say anything about a "Palestine kid" who throws a rock. You said - and it's right up there:

"Your choice to focus only on a single actor reminds me of the I/P diaries, where everyone insists the other side bears all responsibility for any given tragic event.  In this instance, the clerk would be Israel, rolling in tanks after Palestinians threw rocks.  Deplorable, out of proportion, and yet without instigation, no tanks would have rolled."
That is a completely different meaning than the one you just gave now, and that is very, very weird. And very hard to not call outright dishonesty.

Not to mention that "yet without instigation, no tanks would have rolled" is just fucking sick, too.

P.S. Rape victims' attire is by sick fucks called "instigation". That's exactly what they call it.

                    Please - let's be done.
