  •  All of western NY, especially the Rochester area (16+ / 0-)

was blanketed by ice in 1991.  Power out everywhere for a week or more.  I was teaching in a rural county south of the city and had to take students to the Catskills for a three day conference, all prepaid.

Because all roads were closed and phones down, I sneaked around two counties for two days, visiting students and telling them where to sneak to catch the bus.  I was the only teacher working, all schools were closed for at least a week.

Firewood was quite inexpensive the next heating season!  My response has been to be sure I can plug my furnace into a generator and to keep the kerosine tank full!

If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever. &
