  •  The VERY progressive President of the Cook Co. (0+ / 0-)

Board, Toni Preckwinkle, has endorsed Hutchison. Robin Kelly was Toni Preckwinkle's Chief of Staff. Toni Preckwinkle has seriously proposed actions like taxing bullets, etc., to help fight gun violence. Toni Preckwinkle is NOT a fan of the NRA, and she's not likely to have ignored this part of Hutchison's history; in fact, she addressed it in her endorsement speech.

There are a lot of progressives here who are trying to decide who to vote/work for in IL-02, and Kos coming out on one side or the other might move some votes, but the real problem will be one of them beating former US Rep. Deb Halvorson, who really will be a pro-ish NRA supporter (with the Chicago part of the district, no Democrat is going to 100% with the NRA with the current map). These 3 candidates are likely to finish 1-2-3. Let's just hope Halvorson's not in front at the finish.

    •  toni's endorsement is telling... (2+ / 0-)

but not for the reasons you might think.  toni has found numerous ways to work with the machine and toi's recent funders in chicago (w stroger's indicted deputy COS, carla oglesby), indiana (w daley's old patronage chief) and springfield (w madigan himself) shows that toi knows how to accommodate the machine, as well...

      •  Hi bored, I'll take your advice, as I know... (0+ / 0-)

        you're involved down south.

Who are you supporting? Is anybody from the North Side helping? IVI? NDFA?

Post on the ground analysis, either here, or at PSB.

        I'll listen.

        •  robin kelly, for sure... (0+ / 0-)

i've tried to get ndfa to support robin, but the biggest problem is that toi's treasurer and friend was a california fund-raiser for howard dean in 2004, so i'm not sure what they will do.

as for ivi, it's not really a factor in the south suburbs (outside of rich whitehead), and given their funding model (where candidates pay for the advertising that spreads their endorsements), i wonder if they will even get involved in this race.  people in the south suburbs, even reformers, are mostly unaware of who and what ivi-ipo is...

    •  Past Tense (0+ / 0-)

Preckwinkle WAS progressive, but her recent endorsements have been disappointing--Berrios, Rush, now Hutchinson.  A true progressive would encourage and support progressive candidates--seems simple, but Toni has forgotten this.  Go Robin!

      •  I'm not happy with Berrios, or a few other choices (0+ / 0-)

of Toni's, but, if you'd had the history that I've had with Toni, or know Chicago political history at all, you'd know that your prediction of Toni's progressive bent's death is premature, at best.
