  •  The M16s and AK-47s I have fired didn't have (5+ / 0-)

    pistol grips.

You eat a lot of acid, Miller, back in the hippie days?

    •  When I've looked photos of them (4+ / 0-)

They all seem to. I know Wikipedia is far from a reliable source, but every photo or drawing of the various models of M16s on its article on the M16 seems to have a pistol grip.

Same thing for the AK-47except for the one that had been customized by its owner.

Even if your recollection is correct, I think we can agree that the majority of these firearms have this supposedly non-functional cosmetic device?

      Curious, that.

It's almost as if the various people who specified these weapons, designed them, manufactured them, and purchased them all seemed to be under profound confusion about the non-utility of the pistol grip.  Must be one of the biggest charades in history.

How foolish they must feel now that we have people such as yourself ready to clear things up!

    •  The ones I have sure did. (0+ / 0-)

I have never seen an M-16 with a conventional rifle stock. Of course an individual owner could modify one.

Current military weapons are designed on the bullpup design to achieve a shorter weapon length. The pistol grip is inherent to this design. Shorter weapon length makes it easier and faster to manipulate while firing esp in tight spaces. So the pistol grip is anything but cosmetic. It's needed to achieve other design goals.
