  •  What taxes do you speak of exactly? (0+ / 0-)

Income tax on the highest tax bracket is already significantly higher than the middle class tax bracket. They make money and pay a lot of money in. We shouldn't ask them for more.

    •  "already significantly higher" (12+ / 0-)

So?  They have the ability to pay much more than most people do.  If the government needs more money to settle the debt (which it doesn't) then you don't go after low income people who haven't much if any to spare, you go where the money is.

...better the occasional faults of a government that lives in a spirit of charity, than the consistent omissions of a government frozen in the ice of its own indifference. -FDR, 1936

    •  Let them get rich in Somalia, then. (8+ / 0-)

Paying taxes sucks, and kids hate vegetables. But here's a bit of news for you: Just as veggies are good for you, big government is good for rich people. It's hard to make money in an unregulated marketplace. Just ask the Somalians.

Let us all have the strength to see the humanity in our enemies, and the courage to let them see the humanity in ourselves.

      Is that you, Mr. Cantor?

I am not religious, and did NOT say I enjoyed sects.

No niceties are required here. You live in a fantasy world where the rich are some kind of oppressed minority. They use tax loopholes that the 99% can't access. They shuffle money into offshore accounts, turn ordinary income into capital gains thru tricks and cheats. They defraud the US from BILLIONS in taxes then whine the deficit scares them. Taxes are the price we pay for civilization and the rich get more benefit from that civilization then anyone else. They benefit from the roads that transport their goods and let their workforce live away from their businesses. They benefit from the public schools that train their workforce. They benefit from the government enforcing IP protections and trade laws that reward them for shipping our jobs overseas. At best we get some "trickle down" effects from those things at worst we get shafted from them. It's way past time for the rich to pay for the benefits they receive.

What's wrong with America? I'll tell you. Everything Romney said was pre-chewed wads of cud from Republicans from the last 30 years and yet he managed thru a combination of racism and selling the (false) hope of riches to get 47% of the national vote.

    •  Bullshit (4+ / 0-)

While the rate is higher, the wealthy also benefit from a multitude of loopholes that bring their rate down to basically nothing.  Or don't you remember how mitt was paying an effective tax rate of 13% (less than half of mine when I make less than $100K).  75K deduction for his freeking horse and you have the nerve to come here and take up for that.  Shame on you.
