  •  And *what* is the definition of terrorist? (11+ / 0-)

ever since the creation of the "enemy non-combatant" I've been a little hazy on that.

In general, the haziness around defining who is a terrorist and who is a threat to our country is at the heart of all this lawlessness. That's what makes it possible to put both little old Quaker ladies who don't like war and peaceful Occupy activists who just want Wall St to be held accountable for their crimes on the same lists with Al-Quaeda, who want to blow up our cities.

Take Levin's and Graham's indefinite detention law and see how many different kinds of people you can imprison under the law. So far, I've managed to put Standard &Poor's, Moody's, the board of BP and the U.S. military itself into indefinite military detention (I guess the military will have to take it in shifts as to which of them is guarding and which is imprisoned). The reason it's possible to make a valid argument to imprison  these people is that under Levin/Graham's law, being associated with people that attack the interests of the United States is enough to warrant (heh) being put into indefinite military detention. So all you have to do is make an argument that somebody took action against the interests of the United States, and if that somebody is Joe Schmoe's brother, you can put Joe Schmoe into indefinite detention.

What's really fun about this is that such terms as "the interests of the United States" are extremely vague and undefined, so much so that I hope that this is one of those outsourced bills and that no one actually working on the Hill in Levin's or Graham's offices actually wrote any of it, b/c if they did they should put bags over their heads and walk around like the Unknown Staffer.

if necessary for years; if necessary, alone
