hope the stove produced something yummy.

i think that china will get away with all kinds of stuff because they are too big a potential market (once we get our workers reduced down to the sort of wages that are paid in china) to cut off.  beyond that, i don't assume that china is doing things that our government isn't doing.  i suspect that our government has the same capabilities as china and probably more, but may be more dextrous in using its weapons than china.  in this latest episode, china hacked into a bunch of newspaper servers, meantime, our government has been using its surveillance tools to track down people who have had contacts with journalists (probably at the same papers).  china undoubtedly wanted to make a show of flexing its muscles and have a chilling effect on the transmission of information that it finds embarrasing by newspapers.  the us undoubtedly has the intent of flexing its muscles and having a chilling effect on the transmission of information that it finds embarrasing to newspapers.

in my view, the problem isn't the country of china.  it's the abuse of power by those that have it.

how we will all assess the pros and cons of the internet upon our lives.

I may have to dig into my book collection and look for those dystopian novels that were so popular in the 50's and 60's, just to see which, if any, was prescient.

teilhard de chardin's, "the phenomenon of man," which many say was prescient about the internet (which teilhard called, the "noosphere") which he saw as a step in man's further evolution.

i've been meaning to read it for 30+ years, but every time that i get into it something major comes up that i have to attend to and i wind up having to start over.
